Anti Graffiti-Zone

The sign didn’t help much, as there was still some graffiti in the men’s room of the Cadillac Bar.

San Jacinto Monument

A post race photo from the Battle of San Jacinto triathlon.  The monument stands 570 ft tall from the base and is 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument.  Everything in Texas is bigger.

What’s happening to that good ole Southern hospitality Texas is famous for?

VW Bugs

In Mexico City the streets are over run with green/white painted VW bug taxis. The neat thing about them is that they dont have a front passenger seat to allow easy access to the back bench seat. Check out this one at 100% Taquito on 59 South, across the highway from Joel Olsteen’s castle.

Our House, in the middle of our street

Every so often I see old dilapidated houses that were lifted off their original location and are in transit across the inner streets of Houston to their new resting spot. Last night I spotted this heap rolling over the Shepherd overpass on Allen Parkway and bouncing over the railroad tracks just North of Washington Ave.

All the while as the wide load rolled down Shepherd a few bits siding and a some bricks were falling off the house and the cleanup crew following the house were stopping and picking up the debris.

Why not recycle all the building materials off the house and then restore it in its original location, rather than move it around sacrificing its structural integrity as its transported to some other location?

Border Cruiser

Ever wonder what those guys went through to get into the the States, the ones standing outside of the Home Depot- in the parking lots. Check out Steven Gagnon’s projection vehicle which highlights the trials of illegal immigrants journeys on its rear windows.

Look for his car at FotoFest Headquarters and the Art Car Museum this weekend.

Maersk container home

Is that a shipping container hanging off the third floor?

Yes, more than a dozen modular shipping containers from Maersk and Saejin are integrated into this 3 story steel and concrete brick home in the Rice Military neighborhood.

Smart Car USA opens its doors in two Houston locations this weekend. The biggest sales challenge the smart car will face in Texas, is the safety factor on the roads when driving next to all the SUVs and trucks that could just crush it.

Yes, I voted for Obama in the Texas Primary.

Hillary on the Left, Obama on the Right

With only a week away to cast your ballot, many homes like this one remain divided on who to vote for in the March 4th Texas Primary.

So who are you voting for?

Some voting info for you:

Bus stop Stretch-N-Go

Heres a great idea at the Houston Intercontinental Airport Employee bus stop. The chart shows a quick stretching routine for airport tarmac employees. Perfect to get those guys limber and ready to throw our bags around the airport.

Houston Its Worth It Book Party

  • What: HIWI: THE BOOK Party
  • When: Thursday Feb 21, 2008, 6-8p
  • Where: Houston Center for Photography - 1441 West Alabama, Houston TX
  • Why: In August 2006, Houston. It’s Worth It. teamed up with the Houston Center for Photography (HCP) to create “Houston. It’s Worth It. – Show Us Why,” an open-call exhibition in which Houstonians were asked to submit personal photographs relating to life in Houston. Over 600 images were received and every one of them hung exhibition. The exhibition was a rousing success, with HCP breaking all attendance records over the brief run of the show. HIWI was so thrilled by the range of perspectives and idiosyncratic viewpoints in the show, book was the obvious next step. For more information on the book, please visit houstonitsworthit.com.

Greetings from Galena Park

If you get a chance, cruise over to Mercury Drive in East Houston.  Due south is the Houston Ship Channel and the petrochemical plants.   As you look West, across the Texas coastal prairie, you can see the skyscrapers of Downtown.

Dogs are welcome!!!

I love Lighting Unlimited, just for the fact that they allow my little doggy to browse their trendy selection of lights and fans. Now if only the city would repeal the ordinance that pets aren’t allowed inside or at the outside patios of restaurants and cafes, I could enjoy a cup of coffee or a beer with friends and Maya.

The Dam

Rode out to the Addicks Reservoir yesterday. This was taken along the top of the service road that runs on the 61,000ft long earthen dam.
