INBOUND: HOUSTON
Is this Take two on Karyn Olivier’s billboard masterpiece?
Sawyer Heights Tower
Notice the new Hike and Bike path going under I-10 which will connect The Heights to Sawyer Heights and then roll into UH-Downtown. This is a Rails to Trails project where the old railroad tracks path is used as the route for the new path.
Details from the Houston Bikeways on the MKT Rail to Trails Project
The MKT/SP Trail is a Rails- to-Trails conversion project which consists of 4.6 miles of a 10-foot wide, concrete, multi-use hike and bike trail along the old Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Southern Pacific Railroad. The trail runs from 26th Street to 7th Street, and from Shepherd along 7th Street, to Spring Street and White Oak Bayou under I-45, where it connects to the Heritage Corridor West Trail providing a connection to the University of Houston and other downtown bikeways and destinations.
Another building topping out
Spotted another tree placed on top of this steel frame building under construction on I-10 West.

The tree, usually a small pine, is of Greek origin. Mythology, To appease the forest gods that the wood used has not been killed (destroyed) that is if a tree god were to fly over the location he/she, it would see the “tree top” still alive. And the tree isn’t placed on the house after construction; it’s placed on the roof after the roof is papered,(weather tight) and removed after the home is CO’ed (recieved its’ Certificate of Occupancy)

Wind Farms
Spotted these mega fan blades blowing down I-10, heading out West for those wind powered turbine farms popping up all over Texas.

I purchase clean energy from by energy provider. 100% wind power for my home and you should too.
Taco trucks
A homage to the Taqueria Trucks of Houston. I love the artwork that adorns these trucks.
Tacos D Mundo – on Harrisburg East of Downtown Houston
Taqueria Mi-Tinos – Updating the menu – on Houston Ave
Taqueria Los Mexicanos – Harrisburg near the Railroad tracks
El Taconazo – parked on Staff Sergeant Marcario Garcia Drive (69th St) near Navigation
El Taco Del Gordo – last spotted rolling Eastbound on I-10 near Kirkwood
Elotes La Estrella – parked in front of the Fiesta on Fulton
Taqueria El Regio – At the intersection of Market St and Federal Road
Pollos Asados Al Carbon – this one is smoking!
Que Pollaso! – Where old school buses go to die.
Don Chenchos Taqueria – on Lawndale near Telephone – also know as little Mexico
Taqueria El Primo – Lots of cheap tacos at this one
El Regio Antojitos – the location of the propane tanks on the back of this one is not a smart move by this vendor
Taqueria Anabel – On Shepherd just north of I-10 – at least the propane tank on this one is on the front of the trailer
Taqueria El Quetzal – this one features a beautiful painting of Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala. This truck usually hopping between construction sites in Hyde Park/Montrose.
Hopefully, Houston wont go the way of LA and New Orleans issuing bans on these mobile caterers.
Which ones have you been to?
Is Houston still the Space City?
Driving into Downtown today I happened to spot the old Space Shuttle mosaic mural on the side of the I-10 embankment of the Smith St exit. It sure could use a power wash to make it pretty and visible again and highlight the hey days of Houston as the Space City…
With all the efforts spent on putting in modern illuminated bus stops and street maps in downtown, this would have a lot of visual impact, as its a main artery back into the city center.
The heads have moved
Four of the presidents heads created by David Adickes have sprung up along I-10 just West of Downtown. Looks like Honorable Abe, Washington and two others I don’t recognize?
